Tragic News on Cargo Plane Incident: Fatalities Rises to 13

The number of victims from the freight aircraft which burst into flames and plummeted has now risen to 13, as confirmed by recent statements.

Mayor's Statement

While en route to the Teamsters’ candlelight gathering, I learned of a 13th person that died as a consequence of the aircraft incident,” expressed the local official in a social media post. “My heart is with the families, friends and colleagues of all who were taken in this recent disaster. We will get through this collectively.”

Deceased Named

A release from UPS named the pilots aboard the jet as Captain Richard Wartenberg, First Officer Lee Truitt, and Relief Captain Dana Diamond.

“Our thoughts go out to all UPSer who has been affected and everyone in our local region – assisting you and making sure you get the support and aid you need is our focus,” the firm’s message read.

Probe Findings

Federal investigators disclosed that the UPS cargo plane’s left wing ignited and an engine separated soon after departure from the Louisville Muhammad Ali international airport, resulting in the jet to plummet and erupt into a blaze.

The safety agency announced it is probing the jet’s service record, which was in the state for repairs a period prior to the incident.

Flight tracking data indicated the aircraft was on the tarmac in the Texas city from the start of last month to mid-October.

“We are aware that this aircraft was there in San Antonio,” stated an investigator on the following day, without providing a precise period. “We will look at every piece of maintenance that was performed, including the San Antonio time, straight to the day of the journey.”

Retrieval of Key Components

The pilot’s recorder and flight data recorder were retrieved, and the engine was found on the tarmac.

The units – known as black boxes – were built to endure collision damage and severe heat from infernos, and they looked to be undamaged when located among the wreckage. Authorities intend to examining data from the recorders.

The plane’s last flight details indicated an altitude of 475 feet and a rate of 210 mph ahead of the impact.

Maintenance Background

Per FAA records dated 18 September, a fissure on a part within the center wing fuel tank needed fixes.

Headquartered in Singapore ST Engineering, which stated it offers aircraft servicing for the carrier’s jet and manages a repair facility in that city, chose not to speak, but stated it would cooperate fully when officials reached out it.

Services Continue

In the meantime, UPS Worldport operations continued last night with its overnight or night sort procedure, representative the company official confirmed. All three tarmacs at the aviation hub were also open again.

The distribution hub in Louisville is the company’s largest. The facility hires over 20,000 people in the area, handles 300 flights per day and processes over a huge volume of items per hour.

Community Response

A candlelight vigil was organized on the evening of 6 November by the local labor union, which acts for employees at the airfield, the company’s largest shipping facility.

The union chapter, which represents staff, began the memorial with a quiet tribute at 5.14pm, the approximate moment of the incident before.

“This incident was so abrupt, so unexpected,” the leader told the assembly of attendees. “No one had a chance to bid farewell to any one of those who we have said farewell to.”
